What Is Trigger Finger?
Trigger finger, also known as stenosing tenosynovitis, occurs when the tendon that moves the finger becomes restricted as it passes through its tendon sheath.
This can cause pain, stiffness, clicking or catching, and in some cases the finger may become temporarily locked in a bent position.
Common Symptoms
- Pain or tenderness around the base of the finger
- Clicking or catching when moving the finger
- Difficulty straightening the finger
- Stiffness or reduced hand movement
Trigger Finger Treatment & Surgery
Treatment depends on the severity of your symptoms and how much the condition is affecting everyday
hand function.

Non-surgical treatment may be considered where appropriate. Mr Akhtar can assess your symptoms and discuss suitable options based on your individual condition.
When Surgery May Be Considered
If symptoms continue or significantly restrict movement, trigger finger surgery may be discussed. The procedure aims to release the narrowed part of the tendon tunnel so the tendon can move more freely.
